Australian Independent Music Video Awards 2013 - Entries Open & Welcomed

The Australian Independent Music Video Awards are the world's largest music video awards and are undertaken to provide recognition and incentive to filmmakers and musicians. Entries are are now open with entry forms available from the awards website and via Sonicbids.

With some 50 categories, the awards were initiated by the Australian Independent Music Association in recognition of the diversity and range of talent active in the production of independent music videos. The vast majority of the music videos, similar to the original recorded music tracks, are not well covered by mainstream music industry awards, that are dominated by major transnational recording labels and media interests.

Organisers will be careful in cross-checking music videos entered based on last year's experience with Korean, Japanese and one American music video disqualified as coming from performers signed to major labels. Organisers are also concerned over the fate of performers whose 2012 entries were withdrawn without explanation including all entries from China, Iran and one video featuring Pussy Riot of Russia (AIMA is non-political, but does respectfully ask authorities to release these independent music performers from prison).

Judges for the 2013 Australian Independent Music Video Awards include a former Tropfest & International Film winner, leading Radio producers and presenters, award winning Music Producer and a Music Festival coordinator. Most will be present at the awards ceremony to be held at a major public institution in Canberra, Australia during September 2013.

So if you have a music video submit it or if you have a song and storyboard idea do not procrastinate, get on with the filming and editing – the clock is ticking! Music Video entry deadine is 31 July 2013

All past music videos winners can be freely viewed on the awards website www.aimva.net

Australian Independent Music Video Awards 2012 - Winners Announced

The Australian Independent Music Video Awards 2012 were announced today after considerable expansion accompanied by unexpected controversy. With 50 award categories and hundreds of entries the Australian Independent Music Video Awards is now the world's largest competition for "independent" performers and production units and internationally recognised as the most comprehensive for music videos.

The 2012 Awards saw entries from Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Greenland, Iran, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States of America. Surprisingly several entries were withdrawn without explanation including all entries from China, Iran and one video featuring Pussy Riot of Russia - organisers wish the performers and video production teams well, hoping the withdrawls were not due to political pressure. Entries from Japan and Korea were disqualified as coming from performers signed to major labels as was one entry from the United States. Perhaps these issues are to be expected as the Awards have grown over time.
